Terms of Use
These terms explain what LayerUp Kids is, what it is not, and the responsibilities that stay with you as a parent or caregiver.
Last updated: 8 September 2026
1. About LayerUp Kids
LayerUp Kids is a mobile app that helps parents and caregivers make everyday decisions about what a child may need for the day. It takes local weather information together with details you choose to enter about your child — such as age group, temperature sensitivity and sleep setup — and turns them into general clothing, sleep and packing guidance. It also lets you create routine sheets you can share with the people who care for your child.
LayerUp Kids is a planning aid. It is not a medical device, a medical service, a childcare service, or an emergency service.
2. Acceptance of terms
By downloading or using LayerUp Kids, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the app. If we change these terms, the updated version will be published on this page with a new "last updated" date, and continuing to use the app means the current version applies to you.
3. Eligibility and parent/caregiver responsibility
LayerUp Kids is intended for adults — parents, guardians and caregivers — not for children to use on their own. There is no child account or child login, and the app does not invite children to sign up.
You are responsible for the information you enter. Only enter details about a child if you are that child's parent or legal guardian, or if you have the permission of the person who is. You are also responsible for keeping your device secure, since the app's information is stored on it.
4. Using the app
You agree to use LayerUp Kids for its intended purpose. Please do not:
- use the app in a way that breaks the law or infringes someone else's rights
- enter information about a child you have no authority to provide information about
- attempt to reverse engineer, tamper with, or interfere with the app or the services it relies on
- attempt to remove or circumvent advertising or purchase controls
- rely on the app as a substitute for supervising a child
5. Weather and clothing recommendations
Weather information in the app comes from a third-party weather provider. Forecasts are predictions: they can be inaccurate, incomplete, out of date, or simply wrong, and conditions can change faster than any forecast updates. Local conditions where you are — wind, shade, humidity, indoor heating, a sudden change of weather — can differ substantially from a forecast for your area.
Clothing and layering guidance is general and based on the information available to the app. It is a suggestion to consider, not an instruction to follow, and it cannot account for everything about your child on a given day.
No guarantee of comfort or safety
LayerUp Kids does not guarantee that a child will be comfortable, warm, cool, or safe. It does not guarantee that weather information is accurate or current. You remain responsible for deciding what is appropriate for your child, and for checking the actual conditions your child is experiencing.
6. Health, safety and medical disclaimer
LayerUp Kids provides general comfort and clothing guidance. It is not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for:
- parental or caregiver supervision
- professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment
- official childcare guidance
- safe-sleep guidance
- emergency services
- checking the actual conditions your child is experiencing
If you are worried about a child's health, temperature, breathing, or wellbeing, contact a qualified health professional. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services immediately — do not use this app for emergencies.
Safe sleep
Sleep-related guidance in the app, including sleep bag TOG and room temperature information, is general information only. Safe-sleep recommendations vary by country, by health authority, and by a child's age and circumstances. Always follow the current safe-sleep recommendations that apply to your location and your child, and the advice of your health professional. LayerUp Kids does not replace professional safe-sleep guidance and does not make medical recommendations.
7. Routine PDFs and shared information
Routine PDFs are communication aids — a convenient way to tell a caregiver how your child's day usually goes. They are not medical records, and they are not a substitute for formal childcare, medical, or emergency documentation required by a provider or authority.
A routine PDF contains what you put into it, which may include your child's name, routines, allergies, medications, emergency contacts and care instructions. You are responsible for checking that the information is accurate and appropriate before you share it, and for choosing who receives it. Once shared, the recipient's handling of that document is outside our control.
8. Purchases and lifetime unlock
LayerUp Kids is free to use with advertising. A one-time lifetime unlock, currently AU$3.99, is available as a single purchase. It is not a subscription and there is no recurring charge.
The lifetime unlock currently includes:
- adding and managing multiple children
- creating and sharing routine PDFs with caregivers, daycare and grandparents
- removal of advertising
- lifetime access, with no recurring subscription
Prices are set in the app stores and may vary by region, currency and local taxes, and may change over time. The features included in the unlock are those configured in the app; features may be improved, adjusted or replaced as the app develops.
9. App store terms
LayerUp Kids is distributed through app stores, and your use of the app is also subject to the terms of the store you obtained it from. Purchases are processed by that store — Apple's in-app purchase system or Google Play's billing system, where applicable — and not by us directly.
See the Apple Media Services Terms and the Google Play Terms of Service. Refunds follow each store's process — see our Purchases & Refunds page.
10. Intellectual property
The LayerUp Kids app, its name, branding, design, text, graphics and underlying software are owned by LayerUp Kids or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app for your own family's use. You may not copy, redistribute, sell, or create derivative works from the app or its content, except as permitted by law.
11. User-provided content
The information you enter — child details, routines, notes, checklists — is yours. It is stored on your device, and we do not claim ownership of it. You are responsible for its accuracy, for having the right to provide it, and for what you do with documents generated from it.
Because this content is stored locally, it is not backed up by us. If you lose your device, reset it, or delete the app, local app data may be lost. See our Privacy Policy for detail.
12. Third-party services
The app relies on third-party services to work: a weather provider for forecast information, Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) for advertising in the free version, and app store services for distribution and purchases. Those services are operated by their own companies under their own terms and privacy policies, and their availability and accuracy are not something we control.
Our Privacy Policy lists these providers and links to their policies.
13. Availability and changes
We aim to keep LayerUp Kids working well, but we do not guarantee that the app will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free. Features may be added, changed or removed as the app develops, and third-party outages, device or operating system changes, or a lack of network connectivity may affect it. If a weather forecast cannot be retrieved, guidance may be based on cached information or may be unavailable.
14. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, LayerUp Kids is provided "as is" and we exclude liability for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the app — including decisions made about a child's clothing, sleep, comfort or activities, inaccurate or unavailable weather information, information you shared through a routine PDF, or loss of locally stored data.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Australian Consumer Law. Where liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, our liability is limited, at our option, to supplying the app again or paying the cost of having it supplied again.
15. No professional medical advice
Nothing in LayerUp Kids is medical, health, or other professional advice, and no professional relationship is created by using the app. The app does not diagnose, treat, or monitor any condition. Always seek the advice of a qualified health professional with any questions about your child's health, and never disregard professional advice because of something you read in the app.
16. Termination / removal of the app
You can stop using LayerUp Kids at any time by deleting it from your device. You can also clear local data first using the app's Delete All App Data function in its legal and privacy settings.
We may suspend or discontinue the app, or a feature of it, if we need to. If your access to the app is affected by an app store's action, that store's terms govern that outcome. A lifetime unlock relates to the app as provided through the store you purchased it from.
17. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Australia. Where a matter can be dealt with by a court, you agree to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Australia, without affecting rights you may have to bring proceedings in your own place of residence under local consumer law.
