Privacy Policy

LayerUp Kids is built to work on your device. This policy explains, in plain English, what the app stores, what leaves your device and why, and the choices you have.

Last updated: 8 September 2026

The short version

LayerUp Kids has no accounts and no login. Everything you enter about your children — names, ages, preferences, routines — is kept locally on your device, and LayerUp Kids does not operate a database that holds users' child profiles. Two things do leave your device: the location used to fetch a weather forecast, and the device and ad-related information handled by Google's advertising technology in the free, ad-supported version. Buying the lifetime unlock removes advertising and unlocks the premium features.

1. About this policy

This policy applies to the LayerUp Kids mobile app and this website. It describes how the app currently works. If the app changes in a way that affects your privacy, this policy will be updated and the "last updated" date at the top of this page will change.

LayerUp Kids helps parents and caregivers decide what a child may need for the day — clothing layers, sleepwear and sleep-bag warmth, and what to pack — based on local weather information and details the parent or caregiver chooses to enter.

2. No accounts, and nothing held for you elsewhere

To be specific about what does not exist today:

  • There is no user account system and no login.
  • There is no parent account, and none is required to use the app.
  • LayerUp Kids does not operate a database, backend or hosted service holding users' child profiles.
  • There is no social login.
  • There is no cloud syncing. Child profiles, routines and settings are not copied by LayerUp Kids to another device or service.
  • There is no analytics provider integrated in the app.
  • The purchase system does not require you to create or provide an account identity to LayerUp Kids.

Because there is no account and no hosted copy of what you enter, LayerUp Kids has no way to look up "your data" — there is no such record to look up.

3. Information stored on your device

The app stores what you enter locally, on the device where you entered it, so it can generate guidance and remember your setup between sessions. Depending on which features you use, that can include:

  • a child's display name
  • age group, and optionally a date of birth
  • temperature sensitivity and comfort preferences
  • whether the child walks
  • sleep bag TOG information and sleep room temperature
  • daycare days
  • comfort check preferences
  • saved routines and routine sheets
  • routine sheet details such as allergies, medication and emergency notes, if you choose to enter them
  • pack and checklist information
  • cached weather information
  • saved location preferences
  • notification preferences

This information stays in the app's local storage on your device. It is not uploaded to LayerUp Kids, none of it is collected remotely by LayerUp Kids, and there is no cloud syncing that copies it to another device or service. It remains subject to whatever device-level backup you have enabled through Apple or Google — those backups are controlled by your device settings and your operating system provider, not by LayerUp Kids.

All of these fields are optional in the sense that you decide what to enter. You can use less detail if you prefer, and the app will use whatever you have provided.

4. Location and weather

Weather guidance needs a location. LayerUp Kids can use your device location if you choose to grant location access, and you can also select a location manually instead. Location permission is requested by your operating system, and you can change or withdraw it at any time in your device settings.

The location is used to retrieve local forecast information and turn it into clothing, sleep and packing guidance. To do that, location information may be transmitted to the weather service that provides the forecast. The current weather provider is WeatherAPI, and its handling of that request is governed by its own privacy policy.

Weather information may be cached locally on your device so the app can show recent guidance quickly and without re-requesting a forecast every time you open it. Your saved location preference is also stored on the device so you do not have to set it again. LayerUp Kids does not build a permanent location history of your movements.

5. Advertising in the free version

The free version of LayerUp Kids displays advertising. The app uses Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) to serve native ads inside the app. This means third-party advertising technology runs in the free version of the app, and device and ad-related information may be processed by the advertising provider in order to request and display ads.

That processing is handled by Google according to its own policies and the advertising settings available on your platform and device. For detail on what Google collects and how it is used, see Google's Privacy Policy, how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services, and Google's AdMob data disclosures.

Purchasing the LayerUp Kids lifetime unlock removes advertising from the app and unlocks its premium features.

LayerUp Kids does not make claims here about ad personalisation, tracking, or platform consent prompts beyond what is described above. Where those choices are offered, they are controlled by your device and platform settings and by Google's own policies.

6. Purchases

LayerUp Kids offers a one-time lifetime unlock, currently AU$3.99. It is a single purchase, not a subscription, and there is no recurring charge.

Purchases are made and processed through the applicable app store — Apple's in-app purchase system on the App Store, or Google Play's billing system where applicable. The relevant store processes the payment and holds the record of the transaction under its own terms and privacy policy. LayerUp Kids does not receive or store your payment card details.

See Apple Media Services Terms and Google Play Terms of Service, and our Purchases & Refunds page for how refunds work.

7. Children's information

LayerUp Kids is designed to be used by a parent or caregiver to manage information relating to a child. The app is not designed for children to use on their own, and it does not invite children to create accounts — there is no child account or child login system.

If you enter information about a child, please only enter information you are authorised to provide. If you are not the child's parent or legal guardian, make sure you have their permission before entering details about that child.

Routine sheets can include sensitive details such as allergies, medications, or emergency information — but only if you choose to enter them. Think carefully about what you include, particularly in anything you plan to share with other people.

LayerUp Kids does not claim any formal children's privacy certification. We do not hold COPPA certification, GDPR certification, or certification under any other children's privacy scheme, and this policy should not be read as making that claim. What we can describe is how the app actually works, which is what this document sets out to do.

8. Routine PDFs you create and share

LayerUp Kids lets you create routine PDFs to hand to the people who look after your child — a daycare educator, a babysitter, a grandparent. A routine PDF contains what you put in it, which may include your child's name, their routines, allergies, medications, emergency contacts or information, and care instructions.

The PDF is generated on your device from information already stored there. It is not created on a server, and LayerUp Kids does not receive or keep a copy of it.

You decide whether to create a PDF, and who to send it to. Sharing happens through your device's own sharing functionality, so the apps, contacts and destinations you see are your device's, not LayerUp Kids'. Once you share a PDF outside LayerUp Kids — by email, message, printout, or any other way — how the recipient stores, forwards or handles that document is outside LayerUp Kids' control.

Before you share a routine PDF

Do not include information you would not want that person, or anyone they pass the document to, to have. Check the document before you send it, and share it only with people who genuinely need it.

9. Keeping and deleting your information

Because most app data is stored locally, it stays on your device until you remove it. You have a few ways to do that:

  • Delete an individual child profile in the app, which removes that child's associated local data.
  • Use the Delete All App Data function in the app's legal and privacy settings. This removes LayerUp Kids' local app data from the device and returns the app to its initial onboarding state.
  • Delete the app from your device, following your platform's usual process.

There is no account database or hosted profile for LayerUp Kids to delete anything from, so deletion happens on your device.

Third-party providers that process information — for example the advertising or weather services described above, or the app store that handled your purchase — keep their own records under their own retention practices and policies. LayerUp Kids cannot delete their records on your behalf, and does not guarantee deletion by them. Any routine PDF you have already shared with someone else also remains with that person.

10. Accessing and correcting information

Child profile information is primarily stored on your device, so you can generally view, edit and correct it directly in the app — open the child's profile or the relevant routine and change it.

If you have a privacy question or request that the app itself cannot resolve, email us at info@layerupkids.app. Please keep in mind that, without an account system, we generally cannot identify or retrieve information held on your device.

11. Privacy complaints

If you think LayerUp Kids has mishandled your privacy, please tell us first. Email info@layerupkids.app with enough detail for us to understand the concern. We will review privacy complaints and respond within a reasonable period.

LayerUp Kids is developed in Australia. If your complaint concerns conduct that is covered by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and you are not satisfied with how we have handled it, you may be able to take the matter to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au). Whether that Act and the OAIC's jurisdiction apply to a particular complaint depends on the circumstances, and nothing here is a statement that every obligation under that Act applies to LayerUp Kids.

12. Overseas service providers

The third-party services the app relies on operate global infrastructure, so information they process may be handled in countries outside Australia, in line with their own privacy policies and infrastructure. LayerUp Kids does not control where those providers process information.

Where applicable, those providers include:

  • WeatherAPI, for forecast information — privacy policy
  • Google Mobile Ads / AdMob, for advertising in the free version — privacy policy
  • Apple, for App Store distribution and in-app purchases — privacy policy
  • Google Play, for distribution and billing where applicable — privacy policy

13. Security

Local app data is protected by the security of your device, so the most effective safeguards are the ordinary ones: use a device passcode or biometric lock, keep your operating system up to date, and be careful about who has access to your unlocked device. No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

14. Changes to this policy

If the app changes — for example, if a new service provider is added — this policy will be updated to match, and the "last updated" date at the top will change. Continuing to use the app after an update means the current version applies to you.
